The timing chain synchronises the crankshaft and camshafts. A worn chain, guide or tensioner can allow incorrect timing. A metallic rattle, especially around cold start, a timing-related fault code, rough running or an engine warning light can be reasons to investigate. Those symptoms are not a diagnosis by themselves.
Continuing to run an engine with a severe mechanical rattle risks further damage. Contact us for advice before driving it. We assess the symptoms and fault codes, then confirm what work the particular engine needs.
2.0 Ingenium diesel engines in Evoque, Discovery Sport, Velar and Discovery, among other JLR models. We confirm applicability from registration and engine specification.
Registration, mileage, whether noise is cold or warm, any warning lights or codes, and a short sound recording if possible.
We also carry out timing belt replacements on engines that use belts; ask us for the model-specific interval and quote.
Each vehicle is checked against the correct JLR TOPIx service procedure and the repair scope agreed before work starts.

We replace the relevant timing components and associated parts required by the agreed procedure for that engine.
Engine oil and filter are included in our starting price. We check timing and operation before the car leaves.
Our starting price includes genuine timing parts and engine oil and filter for an eligible, running 2.0 Ingenium diesel. Exact scope and price depend on the VIN, engine variant and findings; damage or additional repairs are quoted separately before we proceed.
Genuine parts are supplied with a two-year manufacturer parts warranty, subject to the manufacturer's terms. We will explain the applicable parts and workmanship cover in your written quote; the parts warranty is not a promise to cover unrelated engine faults.
